Session Description: This session is intended to assist professionals in responding effectively to resistant (uncooperative or over-cooperative) clients. The session will begin with a brief discussion of resistance and its forms and functions. Next five basic skills for effective responding to resistance will be overviewed and illustrated. A demonstration role play will be used to illustrate how the skills can applied in the treatment process. Participants will leave the session with and expanded understanding of resistance, a richer understanding various reasons for resistance, and a five practical skills that can be applied in a wide range of cases and settings.
