Michael Barnett, MA, Ed.S, LPCC is a licensed psychotherapist residing in Los Angeles California with over 30 years of clinical experience. Michael is an ICEEFT certified trainer in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) and founded the Atlanta Center for Emotionally Focused Therapy. Michael’s early career focused exclusively working with addictive processes. Michel worked in inpatient treatment centers, intensive outpatient programs, and dual diagnosis units focusing on the healing of addictive processes for eight years before beginning his private practice in 1993. By 2008 Michael became an ICEEFT certified trainer has been leading EFT certification trainings, workshops and speaking engagements throughout North America and abroad. Michael has ardently worked toward integrating treatment with both trauma and addictive disorders through traditional and experiential processes. Michael’s unique contribution to the existing body of EFT education and training has been creating a framework for tailoring the EFT model to treat couples presenting on the addictive continuum. Michael co-directed a 3-year research project implementing EFT into the treatment regime at an inpatient addiction center in Atlanta. The data is currently being analyzed. He and Dr. Silvina Irwin present advanced trainings and consultation groups focused on working with trauma through the EFT model. They emphasize self of the therapist issues regarding therapist’s secondary traumatization from working so closely with highly traumatized clients. EFT model.
