Session Description: According to the CDC, overdose rates have increased on average over 30% in the past year. There are many factors contributing to this rise including access to treatment, prevention, and recovery services. There is no one approach that will help people with any chronic illness and over the past few years most of the focus on treatment has been on medication which is an important tool in our treatment toolbox but it only part of journey to recovery. SAMHSA defines four dimensions of recovery: Health, Home, Purpose, and Community. This workshop will provide an overview of the four dimensions with by demonstration of how spirituality and music can be tools for engagement, resilience, connection, and purpose, demonstrating the connection between music, spiritual values and memories. This interactive session will provide an overview of music therapy interventions and role play of a music group and interact with a live performance of music.
