Session Description: Career development is not embedded in the culture of addiction treatment professionals as deeply as other sectors in healthcare. This workshop is intended to help individuals new to substance use disorder treatment begin to map out a career path. Attendees will be asked to practice career development skills such as networking, self assessment and job analysis as part of the workshop. This workshop will provide a foundational framework for early career addiction treatment professionals to develop competencies necessary to establish a fulfilling career in the substance use disorder treatment industry. Participants will develop an understanding and practice professional networking strategies; complete a brief career assessment and identify roles within substance use disorder settings that maximize the participants use of their strengths; and identify professional skills or competencies necessary for their “dream job”.

Upon completion of this session participants will articulate an understanding of the value of professional networking and will have complete an experiential networking exercise during the session.
Upon completion of this session participants will have conducted an analysis of skills necessary to develop for their "dream job" and how to pursue developing those skills.
Upon completion of this session participants will have conducted a brief career assessment to identify strengths to leverage and opportunities to develop new career skills.
