Chief Quality Officer
BrightView Health
Cincinnati, Ohio
Navdeep S. Kang, PsyD, HSP is a clinical psychologist and the Chief Quality Officer for BrightView Health. After spending almost 20 years delivering patient care in a variety of behavioral health service contexts, Dr. Kang joined BrightView for the opportunity to develop, implement, and research best-practices in addiction treatment. He leads BrightView’s contributions to the evolving national definition of quality in addiction medicine and is the second-ever non-physician to be appointed to the American Society of Addiction Medicine’s Quality Improvement Council. Dr. Kang developed BrightView's comprehensive intra-treatment monitoring system, which evaluates patient status at the onset and through the course of treatment, offering both clinicians and patients a high degree of visibility into patients' status, allowing for truly personalized care decisions to be made in real-time. This innovative translation of measurement-based care also allows for programmatic adaptation over time, as BrightView's quality and clinical leadership can see how patients respond in aggregate to new service offerings. As such, the measurement-based approach infused into BrightView's program design impacts both each individual patient served and the broader patient population at the same time, while teaching practitioners how to use clinical data to inform their practice.
Dr. Kang was selected by President and Mrs. Obama for the Obama Foundation’s inaugural Fellowship class for his leadership in treating addiction collaboratively with partners across the healthcare system. In addition to serving on the National Quality Forum’s Technical Expert Panel on Opioid Use and Opioid Use Disorder and being appointed by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to a four-year term on the RecoveryOhio Advisory Council, Dr. Kang is a prolific writer and media presence. His editorial pieces on addiction treatment services, policy, and science have been featured by the Huffington Post UK, London School of Economics, The Hill, local news outlets across the Midwest, and he is a co-editor of the forthcoming 4th Edition of The ASAM Criteria. Winner of ASAM’s 2021 Media Award, he also makes regular live television appearances to educate the public on behavioral health and wellness and has been featured on PBS Newshour.
Dr. Kang lives in Kentucky with his wife and four young children.
